Scraps for Splitters

Grateful for the small town community

I’m constantly amazed and grateful for the small town community we have around us here in Bundaberg & Sharon. There’s a sense that we all have each other’s back and I like that about regional areas. Let’s face it Bundaberg’s been through its fair share of tough times and rallied together. I get to work with and collaborate with so many talented and dynamic tour operators & local businesses and I want to take this opportunity to mention one in particular.

I approached Tracey of Alowishous Delicious Café in 2018 during Splitters Farm development stage.

The farm was still just an idea however we had acquired a number of animals already, and were breeding our livestock to fulfill the needs of the farm tours and eventually what will become our own café & produce store.

The cost to feed so many hungry mouths was becoming financially crippling along with the costs to develop our agri-tourism operation that is Splitters Farm today.

Alowishious Delicious has been on board from the start and still provides daily food scraps to our chooks, goats, ducks and turkeys. It’s saves us a bomb in livestock feed and it makes me feel, that in some way, we’re completing the cycle; food waste goes back to feed our animals to provide more of what we eat either through meat, eggs or improve our soil for crops.

Each afternoon I pull up outside Alowishous to grab the ‘Scraps for Splitters’. It’s become a daily ritual in my routine to take what others discard and feed it to our livestock.

Thanks again to Tracey and the team at Alowishous Delicious Café in Bundaberg. They give back to our local community in so many other ways – not just our Scraps for Splitters program and we are eternally grateful for your contribution to our business.

P.S. You can’t go past their coffee, gelato and I highly recommend their Oreo balls – just saying!

Alowishous Delicious Café is located at 4/176 Bourbong Street, Bundaberg – just up the ally way.
